STEVE KOVACICH'S MEMORY PAGE:~~
Hello, I'm Shelley Jo,
This is a Home Page to honor my Fathers memory in a special way. My Dad was born Frank Thomas Kovacich on December
10th, 1919 to Eli and Mary Flaker Kovacich, I'm the baby at 36, so I know only bit and pieces. He had three brothers, John,
Eli, Karl. Two sisters, Stella and Jo (Aunt sis) My Aunt Sis is the last of the 6 kids still living. His brother John's middle
name was Steven, which Dad liked, So they started calling my dad Steve. He attended schools in Rock Springs, and graduated
Rock Springs High School, in the Class of 1938. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He married Ardieth Lydia Mullis
on November 13, 1944 in Green River, Wy. He owned and operated Wyoming Automotive in Rock Springs for 31 years. He belonged
to Jackson elks lodge and R.S. American Legion/post 24. His interests were fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, golfing, photography,
and other outdoor activities. My brother Steve Thomas Kovacich passed away in 69, in a car accident. This was so hard on my
Mom & Dad. I was only five. He was called ACE, by his friends, because he was so intelligent. My dad and Stevie, are my
biggest heros. My biggest Heroines, are Virginia and Pam, my Sisters, and my Mom, whom put up with me for 36 years...:) Now
I will be there for my Mom, So we both have eachothers comfort!
My Dad had a stroke on Febuary
22, 1999.
We stood by his side for two weeks and three days till 5:00, March 8th, when his body, because of pneumonia setting
in, could not fight any longer. He just went into a peaceful sleep. I was so thankful he went without anymore pain. We were
all there with him, (My Mom, and my two sisters,(Virginia & Pamela) and my Dads Sister, Aunt Jo Douglas, (which we call
Aunt Sis)
I had thought about it coming someday, but reality hurts so bad. He was my hero.
Here is a poem, I dedicated to my Father,
STEVE KOVACICH;
GOD SAW YOU GETTING TIRED, WHEN A CURE WAS NOT TO
BE; SO HE PUT HIS HANDS AROUND YOU; AND WHISPERED"COME TO ME" WITH TEARFUL EYES WE WATCHED YOU;AND SAW YOU PASS AWAY;ALTHOUGH
WE LOVED YOU DEARLY;WE COULD NOT MAKE YOU STAY;YOU DIDN'T DESERVE WHAT YOU WENT THROUGH, SO HE GAVE YOU A REST; THAT GOLD
HEART STOPPED BEATING, HARD WORKING HANDS AT REST, GOD'S GARDEN MUST BE BEAUTIFUL, GOD BROKE OUR HEARTS TO PROVE TO US; AND
WHEN I SAW YOU SLEEPING, SO PEACEFUL AND FREE FROM PAIN. I COULD NOT WISH YOU BACK, TO SUFFER THAT AGAIN:
Your daughter,
Shelley Jo Kovacich Fitzgerald
Eulogy for F. T. Steve Kovacich
(December 10, 1919 - March 8, 1999)
Delivered by Grandson, George S. Peck III on March 17, 1999 at the Memorial Service held in Rock Springs, Wyoming Written
by George S. Peck, III. and Virginia Kovacich Haney, Daughter, Shelley Jo Fitzgerald, daughter :
Strong willed, self-sufficient and always seeking adventure, Steve Kovacich ran on the edge of
life, climbing, falling, recovering, but suffering few regrets. Enduring gallantly through the most challenging of times,
the memory of Steve's vitality inspires us still. He raised his family in the land that he loved. His honorable work ethic
propelled a small business to great success. Possessing a battery of creative talents, he was constantly engaged in many projects:
--Mechanically inclined, he maintained his fleet of mobile toys. --Constructively Imaginative, he designed and built a mountain
home in the Wind River Mountains. --Curiously thirsty, he collected an armory of Wyoming artifacts. --and with a keen eye,
Steve captured the heart of scenic Wyoming, family and friends in his photography. He loved a good joke, took pride in his
garden, enjoyed playing golf and vacation travel. But, his greatest joy was spending time up North in the mountains. With
a burning passion for wilderness adventure, Steve found his bliss in the thrill of the hunt, from mountain peak to valley
stream, he loved to explore. To honor steves wishes, his ashes will journey to Pinon Ridge where he will be reunited with
the land that empowered his will, and gave him happiness. In this Act, Steve and the land he loved may become one. My Mom,
two sisters, Nephews,(Jason & Donny), my Grandma Mullis, john Fortuna, and the rest of us, set out on Labor day 99, and
scattered my dad's Ashes upon Pinion Ridge in the Windrivers.
I would like to say, my Dad, taught me ethics,
morals, respect for life and our earth. I will miss him more than anyone knows, but his memories will live on in me forever...:)
I have alot of fun memories growing up, I remember dad sending me out into the sagebrush when I was just 5 or 6 years
old. Then he would tell our German Shepperd (Fritz)to go get Shelley. Fritz would come out to me and grab my wrist, and bring
me back to camp. So fun! We had went on a fishing trip, up to the lake, My dad out in the fishing boat. It started raining
real bad, and Fritz and I climbed under the jeep, My dad just kept on fishing, my mom and Grandma, got wet!!Or another time
I went hunting in the middle of Winter, the jeep died, there was nothing but snow and trees everywhere, We built a fire, and
waited. Dad finally got the jeep going, thank goodness. We went on lots of snowmachineing trips, On one of them, Dad told
me to go down on trail which had a tree at the bottom. Dad said "go ahead, you can turn at the bottom and miss the tree),
and smack, right into the tree, I always enjoyed our outdoor fun. He taught me a deep appreciation for Photography, In which
we have many pictures , with great memories!! I have some good memories, My dad taught me to not litter and distroy our earth.
The things I see people doing is unreal. Why can't we all pull together to pamper our earth so it will be here for the future
generations. Re -cycling is a great place to start!! Every little bit helps, If we all pull together!!
